It wasn't that long ago that I was mailing everyone about group member Josh Caldwell, who won the MTV Student Filmmaker Award.

COMPELLING DRAMA WINS INTERNATIONAL SCREENPLAY COMPETITION

Anita Skibski's Mine Captures Prestigious Writing Honor Beverly Hills, CA - July 16, 2006 - John E. Johnson, Executive Director of the American Screenwriters Association (ASA), announced today that Anita Skibski of Algonquin, IL has won the Grand Prize of the 9th Annual International Screenwriting Competition, for her screenplay, Mine. This industry-leading competition is sponsored by the American Screenwriters Association and Gotham Writers' Workshop. The Grand Prize will be presented during the Screenwriting Hall of Fame Awards at the Actor's Ball & Awards Gala on September 30, 2006 as part of the San Diego Film Festival and ASA International Screenwriting Conference in San Diego, CA.
The winning screenplay is the story of a wealthy and respected coal mine owner who spirals into dangerous obsession over the wife of his best employee in small town, 1950s Kentucky.As the Grand Prize winner Skibski will receive a cash prize of $10,000; ASA and Gotham Writers' Workshop assistance in pitching her script to Hollywood including a trip to the San Diego Film Festival and ASA International Screenwriting Conference in San Diego, CA; the Mick Caswell Award for Screenwriting Excellence; a full script consultation with script consultant, screenwriter and author Michael Hauge; promotion of her script to more than 6,500 decison makers in Hollywood, Final Draft software, and additional screenwriting resources.

Due to the large number and high quality of entries received for this competition the number of finalists was increased from five to seven. We congratulate the other finalists for their exceptional screenplays: 2nd Place - Marjory Kaptanoglu of Belmont, CA with Lying on the Floor Dead; 3rd Place - David Kline of Los Angeles, CA with The Big Orange; 4th Place (tie) Greg Hittelman of Sonoma, CA with Quarantine Zone and Katharine O'Brien of Venice, CA with Burn Card; and 5th Place (tie) Carley Andrews of Port Melbourne, Victoria Australia with Isobel and Louis Felder of Studio city, CA with Reach for the Sun.
