Hi guys!

Calling the album The Joshua Tree was in some ways an acknowledgement of the influence that American culture had on U2. America was having a bigger impact on us that we would ever have on it. Coming from Ireland, the only show in town was the one happening in America. It was not only the biggest album sales market, it was the touring market.

--- Is he saying that in Ireland at the time the only fun people had was watching American shows on TV or on the radio???
It's a clumsy way of saying

We were from Ireland, but the only place we could be successful was America.

You may be being confused by the idiom "only show in town" which means "only possible choice".

Thanks Calif. I would never guess it Emotion: smile
