I would like to read your opinion about whether or not to use commas in the following sentence. "Belief, itself, is the great sin."

I'd omit them. They just slow down the sentence.

Congratulations on writing a standard sentence

No way. "Belief itself" is a phrase on its own. No reason whatever to split it.
Some NESsies may disagree, but if they do, they are wrong.

A perceptive comment on moi, but what about the issue of commas? Do you disagree?

Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
It depends upon whether or not you want a pause before and after the word itself.
For dramatic effect the commas work.

No. There is no justifiable reason to use them, not even the "a comma equals a pause in speaking" excuse.

Belief, itself, is not the greatest sin; without commission it is relatively trivial.
The commafication issue in the first passage is also trivial, as two other NESies seem to have concluded. In the second passage I think it helps.
