  1. If more were like you, we might have been able to coexist.
"Shifting of Tenses" from unlikely premises to unreal outcome.

  2. If more were like you, we might be able to coexist.
"Shifting of Tenses" from unlikely premises to unlikely outcome.

  3. If more had been like you, we might be able to coexist.
"Shifting of Tenses" from unreal premises to unlikely outcome.

Which seems right?

P.S. Google translate offers its own version:
If there were more like you, we could coexist.

It looks like the mixed 2nd/3rd conditional, which is for unreal past events.

- if + Past/ present perfect.

Ex. If more were like you, we might have succeeded.

Only #1 fits as written, but you could fix #3.

As I see it:

  1. MIXED CONDITIONAL - PAST RESULT OF PRESENT OR CONTINUING CONDITION
  2. The Second Conditional - the time is now or any time and the situation is hypothetical
  3. does not fall into any category, even logically can not be, but maybe in some fiction / fantasy

If I'am wrong, please correct me.

Students: We have free audio pronunciation exercises.

In the link, and as I understand, mixed 2nd/3rd conditional is for unreal past events:

if + past / present perfect main clause = unreal and past event.

Link still inactive. Look forward to see it

I don't know why it isn't showing.

Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
Thank you Blue Jay.

I need time to figure it out.

Something wrong there at the https://www.examenglish.com/grammar/mixed_conditionals.htm

  • mixed second / third conditional

This combination describes a situation which is never true, and the past consequence of this situation.
If + past simple, would have + verb (infinitive)

If I had a degree, I would have got that job. Correct

Must be:

If + past simple, would have + past participle
