Are both sentences grammatically correct? If both are correct, what is the difference between the two sentences?

1. The little boy did not know what to tell his mother about the broken vase.

2. The little boy did not know how to tell his mother about the broken vase.

How he tells his mother could be:
  • Face-to-face
  • From behind a locked door
  • From his neighbor's house via telephone
I guess it depends on the cost of the vase! Emotion: wink

Hi,

Are both sentences grammatically correct? Yes. If both are correct, what is the difference between the two sentences? Let me offer a comment in a slightly different way.

1. The little boy did not know what to tell his mother about the broken vase.

Finally, he told her the truth.

2. The little boy did not know how to tell his mother about the broken vase

He told her very quietly while she was asleep.

Best wishes, Clive
