Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Agree or disagree?


Many people believed that prison is the perfect place for the crime to be punished from making trouble in society. I disagree with this view, because I consider that both approaches have their own special value and should play in a important part in tackling crime.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why jail is considered as a solution to reduce the crime rate. The first reason is that prisoner must be aware of the punishment for breaking laws. Murders, for example, will be imprisoned for many years and this detention is such a deterrent for those who intend to commit a crime. Offenders will realize that they will face the loss of freedom, social isolation and separate then from loved ones. Beside imprisoning is an effective way to keep away the safety of public from offenders. As a result, there is no danger to society and residents, and they can take part in any social activities without fear since criminals are behind bars.

On the other hand, I consider that education has a huge contribution in reducing the crime rate. Firstly, in schools, student should be taught basic knowledge of law and the danger of crimes so that they could avoid situations which may involve them in crime or becoming a victim. For instance, there are many cases where drug traffickers insist pupils in helping carry bags which contain cocaine through customs at the airport, and those student lacking knowledge of crime prevention may fall into traps. Secondly, it is also necessary to have education programs in prisons so that prisoners could gain some skills and knowledge in order to easily reintegrating back into the community and earn a living, they no longer rob others.

In conclusion, the reducing of the crime rate is important to make our world better. We have to balance between punish them into prison and teaching educational programs in schools and prisons.
