Did you try to...?

Is "Did you try to..." more about what happened quite some time ago, or at least, not recently?

This is usually how it goes with respect to the time:

Somewhat recently: Have you tried? OR Did you try?
Quite some time ago: Did you try? (BUT also Have you ever tried? and Have you tried ... since ....)

The question "How long ago?" is not always the determining factor.
