(a) It was really nice seeing you again after almost two years.
(b) It was really nice to see you again after almost two years.

I have two questions:

1) Can we consider (a) more informal and (b) more formal?

2) Is there any significant difference in meaning?

3) In which situation can I use these sentences and they can be used interchangeably?

(b) It was really nice to see you again after almost two years.

1) Neither is more formal than the other.
2) There is no significant difference in meaning.
3) Use either of them when you have seen someone who you had not seen for almost two years. 4) They can be used interchangeably.
