Those trees wake up in the morning and beat their chests and drink their coffee black.

How about it is changed into "drink their black coffee"?

Which one do you prefer? Why?

Thanks in advance!

You are trying to stress that they have a particular way of taking their coffee. This is the way they want it. They choose to drink it black.

If you just say "black coffee," perhaps someone just gives it to them that way.

But these are tough guys. They beat their chests. Perhaps they even drink their Bourbon straight up, like I do.

Hi Maple
Glad you are still active! I couldn't care less one way or the other but drink their coffee black is the norm.
