In the US, you say that you are "taking drivers' ed" if you are a student.

Otherwise, if you are an adult just learning to drive, you can say you are taking driving lessons.

In Scandinavia there is an additional test before do your final driving test. You should drive on an icy surface. That is a prerequsite before the theory test. If you are successful in theory test, you are eligible to go to the final driving test which I did a many years ago.

Do you find it in North America?

In Norway, there is a test to drive in the dark. That is additional to the driving on an icy surface test. How about in North Amreica?

What is wrong with to say he has driving lessons?

I studied Russian.

On my way to school, if I someone asked, I used to tell I have Russian lessons. I never said 'I am having Russian lessons'.

Do you find it in North America? Not in Canada, although it sounds like a good idea. But where would you find an icy surface in the summer?

However, there are now some extra restrictions on new drivers. I'm not familiar with the details, but they may includea restriction that new drivers cannot drive at night without a fully qualified driver sitting beside them.

I have Russian lessons. This sounds like you are talking about your schedule.
I am having Russian lessons. This sounds like you are talking about right now, or a temporary arrangement.

Whether it is winter or summer you can do this test. It is an artificial track. I know the existence of two such tracks rather close to my town. I think those schools are run by some private companies with the approval with the government or rather countrie's Road Administration Authority. This is not free. You have to pay for this special test.

If you don't pass it, you should make another appointment to do it again. You are not eligible to sit for the the theory test if you don't do the 'driving on icy surface test'.

Probably when it is really warm, they can't maintain an icy surface. They may shut down the entire unit when it is 30 degrees centigrade. I don't know the way they maintain those units. It is a huge area. They have some experts to advice you before the test. They will provide you a special car too.

I myself did it many years ago.
