I would refer to fruit on a tree as hanging fruit but have no idea what to call those that has fallen off and are lying on the ground. Dropped fruit/coconut/etc? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
In the UK we call them 'windfalls'.

Thanks Nona. Another question, if the fruit is already rotten do you still call them windfalls? I know another other meaning of windfall which is an unexpected fortune or something like that. Rotten fruit being referred to as windfalls is a bit difficult for my brain to accept.
Yes, even if it is rotten we call them windfalls.

I would think there is a connection to the other meaning. Perhaps it's the image of something 'falling into your lap' without involving any effort.
The only food they could find on the island is coconut windfalls. Is this OK?
