Please edit the following short message for me:

Hi Altezza,

Not that I expected the thread to celebrating my 1000th post. Actually I hated such kind of celebration -- Blaise got it right. So I have been kept staying away the thread... But, you know, some guys using VB, HI-FIve, China man and a few other disparaging terms to show off their smarty tricks; and of course, cos so many members expressed their sincere congratulations to me -- so I should, I have to thank them, including you Altezza. Emotion: smile

Peace,

William

Your writing has a very informal style to it, so I have not tried to change that.

I've learned something useful from your editing. Would you kindly point out those informal usages for me? So that I can clearly understand what is formal and what is informal?

Hi Altezza,

Not that I expected the thread to celebrate my 1000th post. <<< This is a phrase, a fragment. Thus, not formal. Actually, I hate these kinds of celebrations. Blaise got it right. So, I have been staying away from the thread. But, you know, some guys use VB, HI-FIve, China man and a few other disparaging terms to show off their smart tricks. I've marked in 'bold' some parts that contribute to the informal tone. If you wish to, you could try to rewrite this in a more formal manner. Emotion: smile

Clive
Would someone like to rewrite those in a more formal manner for me? I am so embarrassed that I cannot figure out how to make the tone more formal. Sorry for that.

Hi,

Dear Altezza,

I did not expect the thread to celebrate my 1000th post. Blaise is correct in his opinion that I dislike such celebrations. Consequently, I have been avoiding the thread. However, some people have been . . . I don't quite understand your meaning here . . . Because so many members have expressed their sincere congratulations to me, I wish to thank both them and you.

Yours sincerely,

William

It is obviously important to know what is formal from what is informal. Ironically, I'd been criticized by the members of that forum that I wrote too much threads in formal form. Consequently I learned a lot from their informal styles. The rusult was: getting the formal and the informal mixed Emotion: smile
