We think our way forward by choosing between right and wrong alternatives, and the wrong choices have to be made as frequently as the right ones.

About the part in bold, grammatically which is it?

1:think forward+our way (i.e. our way=the object of 'think forward')

2:think+our way forward (i.e. our way forward=the object of 'think')
3:ellipsis of 'think in our way forward'

Hi Taka,

#1.

It's like

When he entered the room, it was in complete darkness. He put his hands out and felt his way forward. Soon, he reached the other door.

TakaWe think our way forward by choosing between right and wrong alternatives, and the wrong choices have to be made as frequently as the right ones.
This is called the "X's way construction".

X's way is the direct object. The adverb or prepositional phrase that follows describes the resulting state or location.

So our way is the direct object. forward is an adverb.

Others:

They slowly worked their way around the mine field.

We chopped our way forward through the forest.

Susan talked her way out of the traffic ticket.

The main idea is that you keep on performing the action of the verb as a means of achieving the desired state or reaching the desired location.

CliveHi Taka,

He put his hands out and felt his way forward. Soon, he reached the other door.

So it's not 'felt+his way forward' (i.e. his way forward=the object of 'felt')?
