Clark: Maybe I can help.

Jonathan: You already have. Last season you saved us four part-time hands.
So if we take it a person has two hands then he means Clark saved them from
hiring two workers for a part time job. Am I right?
No. If that were true, you'd have to hire two "hired hands" to get a whole person. No, that's not right either. I think I'm going nutz. Are you really serious?

- A.
As far as labor is concerned, a 'hand' is a hired worker. We have three hands working for us = 3 people.

Right. So Clark saved them from hiring 4 part time workers.
Thanks, Philip!
