Berlin’s point is that, far from being amoral, Machiavelli, perhaps unwittingly, introduced the notion that there could be more than one morality and that these moralities might not be compatible with one another. It’s not that one morality is the true one and all others false. Rather there genuinely incompatible moralities that are each consistent from within.
