Hi

A police officer was banging on the door of the bus station till a middle-aged man looking very put off came into view.

The officer showed the man a picture of the suspect he had been looking for and the man had recognized him. He'd been traveling with another man, younger. They'd taken a bus heading even farther southwest. The man had gotten hold of the driver at home. He'd remembered where he'd dropped the pair. Basically in the middle of nowhere, but it was a start.

Does "put off" mean he was kind of discouraged?

I understand that the man who was at the bus station probably called the driver who was at home and the driver told him that he remembered that suspect.

Or maybe he went to his home together with the officer and showed him the picture?

What does this phrase The man had gotten hold of the driver at home. actually say?

Hi Clive.

So it means he went to the driver's home?
Hi,

Not necessarily. Maybe he phoned him.

(This is not a well-written paragraph.)
