Hello KK

Please spell correctly when you make questions.

1.Nathaniel Hawthorne often complained of how (little) material his life provided for his fiction.
Material can be used both as a count noun and as a non-count noun. Here it is used as a non count-noun and so the preceding modifier should be 'little', not 'few'.

2. Soapberry trees and shrubs thrive in tropical regions, and (are) ornamental plants in Florida.
'And' here is a conjunction connects two coordinate sentences: (1) They thrive in tropical regions and (2) They are ornamental plants in Florida. Soapberry [Shepherdia canadiens], a dciduous shrub, is originally native to northern parts of North America.

3. From the monitoring of earthquake waves (it is evident) that the Earth's outer core is liquid.
That the Earth's outer core is liquid is evident from the monitoring of earthquake waves.

4. Phoenix stands where the Hohokam Indians built a canal system and carried on irrigated farming (long before) the time of Columbus.
He will come here before long (= He will come here soon).
Native Americans came to America long before Columbus discovered America = Native Americans came to America many millenia before Columbus discovered America.

5. Although best known for her prose works, Maya was (also published in) several collections of poetry.
Maya was published in several collections of poetry. =Maya's poems were published in several collections of poetry. =Some publishers published Maya's poems in several collections of poetry. (Compare: Maya Kholesa published her poems)

Something worries me about 5. ...
You have to change things in the sentence outside the ( ) to get it right, strange...
Should have been
... Maya was (also publishing) in several ...
This way, you only have to edit what's in the ( )

I think the excercise was wrongly formulated.

I couldn't say, Paco, I think the question was not well formulated
It would make sense if , although she's mostly known for her prose writing, "she was also published in ..."
An alternative would be "... she also published...", but I don't know whether she's a publisher...
