HI Valued teachers and mentors here.
thanks for your help in advance!

Some government policies do raise the cost of living, like the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) increases. But they are essential; otherwise we would not do them.

why is "increases" being used here instead of increase? since it invovled GST and ERP which means plural.
Is it because is has got something to do with Some government policies do raise the cost of living,

Also, this this case will it be increase/increases. Some government policies do raise the cost of living, like the Goods and Services Tax (GST) increases/increase. But they are essential; otherwise we would not do them.

I do not understand your question.

Increase as a noun is both countable and incountable.

hi teacher.
My question is that, why should be increases be used here instead of increase? what is the reason behind it?

thanks for your precious reply.

the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) increases
This is a plural countable noun. There have been one or more increases in both the GST and the ERP, so the minimum possible is two increases.
the Goods and Services Tax (GST) increases/increase
Again, this is a countable noun, but either the singular or the plural is possible, depending in how many increases the GST had-- one increase or several increases.
