Which of the following is the correct usage in each case?

This is a favourite of me

OR

This is a favourite of mine

This is a favourite of my wife

OR

This is a favourite of my wife's

You need to use the second one in each case.

'Mine" is the possessive pronoun for me and the 's after "wife" is the possessive form.

Hello DrMIke and welcome to English Forums.

What you're talking about here is the double genitive, or double possessive. There are a few threads on that here, including this one: http://www.EnglishForward.com/English/AQuestionDoublePossessives-Other/cmcqp/post.htm
