How interesting!

How did you find the job?Did you find it on internet, or did you first go to China and then find some schools and then apply for a job?Was the salary enough to pay the daily expenses and air tickets?Did the school offer accomdation for you?

I have a friend who works in China full time, I went there with another person to join her during the summer break and we did a summer night school. She works in a poor area where the people cannot afford to pay English speaking teachers. Improving their English skills may give them opportunity for better work. My friend is supported by a college here as part of their charity contribution and they helped pay my expenses as well, but mostly I paid for it myself.
I am very keen to go back to China in 2006 to gain some more experience, but would like to go to a different area this time and to work for a school there. I have been looking at appropriate sites on the internet but still am unsure about the best way to go about it. How do you know who to trust?
From what I have seen on the internet so far, summer schools cannot pay enough to cover travel expenses to and from China, but usually cover all expenses once there and a little spending money.

Try Hong Kong. The pay for NETs is pretty good over there.
I won't be doing it for the money.
Hong Kong is a fun place to visit, but it is mainland China where I would like to work.
Western China eventually.
I love the culture and the people there.
It is so different to Australia, it is almost like a different planet.
I recommend anyone who can should work overseas for awhile, it is an enriching experience.

Robyn,if you really plan to go to China ,maybe I can help you!I once studied there in middle school, and my school needed foreign teachers since foreign language study is one of their features. You know, many Chinese schools won't publish the jobs on the internet, they just publish an ad at local newspaper!Travel there and ask some schools whether they need teachers, that's the way I recommend.

I mean to find a job to cover daily expenses other than teaching languages,do you know anything like that?

Is it possible to find a normal vacational work in Australia?Do you know any places to live in cheaplly there?

Yes I have read on the internet that that is one way, though conditions may not be so good. No need to rough it more than I have to.

Are you talking about here in Australia?

You will need to get a working visa or student visa to work here in Australia. I have met quite a few Chinese who are here in Perth on 12 month student visa's to improve their English. Work is not hard to get if your English is fairly good. If your English is poor than you will only get manual work.

The best thing is if you can live with an Australian family, then you will learn English quickly. Most Chinese I have met live in shared housing with other overseas students. This is cheap, but does not help their English much and they do not get to see much of the place or learn of our culture.
