Hi
Is the red part OK both in conversational English and written English? Do the sentences sound natural?
- Have you heard of something like a man killed his wife because she wore pink?
- Have you heard of something like a student finished a 500-hundred-page book in one sitting?
- Have you heard of something like a chicken attacked its owner ferociously?
Thanks,
Tom

I'd say they are barely acceptable in spoken English but not at all acceptable in writing.
'heard of something like' is virtually always followed by 'this', 'that', or 'it'.

They would sound more natural as "Have you heard of anything like a man killing his wife because she wore pink?" Etc.

Thanks, CJ and Anon.
So are these fully OK (as guided by both of you)?
Or as Anon suggested:
Have you heard of anything like a student finishing a thick novel in one sitting?
Best regards,
Tom
EDIT: Or this?
Have you ever heard of something like this? A man killing his wife because he did not like her cooking.
