The graph indicates the number of international tourists t three different tourist destinations such as the lakes, the mountains and the the coast in a European nation in the 20 years period.

Overall, there was an increasing number of tourists to three different regions. The coastal region was the most popular tourist destination among three areas.

In 1987, the most famous region for travellers was the coast which attracted nearly 40,000. By contrast, the number of visitors to the lakes was the least at 10,000, while people spent time on the mountainous places were twice as much as the lakes. As it can be seen from the graph that there was an upward trend for the lakes and the mountainous regions in the next 5 years. The number of traveller to the beaches saw a slight decline at approximately 35,000 in 1992 before countiously increasing drammatically in the following 10 years.

In the last 5 years, the number of visitors who visited the lakes reached a peak of over 70,000 in 2002, then declined sharply by the end of the period. On the other hand, mountainous areas continued going up considerably and hit the highest point at 75,000. The number of travellers who spend time on the coastal regions gradually rose.

You must include the definite article to refer to the specific, definite places.

 There was an increasing number of tourists to three different regions. 

Incorrect. That means any three regions in the world - for example, the south coastal region, the east Harlem region and the northern Lake District region. It does NOT mean the specific three regions in the table, chart or graph.

These are correct:

There was an increasing number of tourists to all three regions.
There was an increasing number of tourists to these three regions.
There was an increasing number of tourists to the three regions.
There was an increasing number of tourists to two of the three regions.

You made the same mistake in this sentence.

Do not use synonyms! In task 1, they are confusing for the reader. You need to be precise and mathematical.

Does "area" refer to the "region"? If you use a different word, the reader thinks you are writing about something different.

Numbers do not have eyes. Numbers cannot "see" anything.

They cannot experience anything. They cannot witness anything.
