here is a few lines of a poem im reading, could anyone tell me what, if any kind of literay devices are used in this:

"I came to you for truth,
And you gave me lies.

I came to you for liberty,
and you gave me bondage.

I came to you for hope
and you gave me despair"

any literay devices/techniques used here? i dont think i see any, but maybe im missing them
Hello Guest

There seem to be two devices: parallelism and antithesis.

Parallelism here = the repeated structure of the couplets:

'I came to you for A and you gave me B', repeated 3 times.

Antithesis = the contrast within each couplet:

'I came to you for X, and you gave me the opposite of X.'

The antithetical effect is softened by the use of 'and' instead of 'but'.

Hello Guest

If you post your poem-in-progress, people will no doubt comment.

(You probably don't know this, but 'quick please' sounds slightly brusque in English, so is probably best avoided.)
