Hi, how are you?

Suppose you are in a room, and you hear someone say, "I'll hit the lights," would you just think he/she will turn off the lights of the room, or could it also be he/she will turn on the lights? Could it be "hit the light" as well? Or should it be "hit the light"?

Many thanks in advance.

Could be either on or off, and you will know which according to whether you are already sitting in the dark or not.

Could it be "hit the light" as well? Or should it be "hit the light"? There is no difference between these two? Anyway, yes you could say light singular but only if you were in a small room with one light, you wouldn't use it in a general sense.

Thanks much, Nona the Brit. Yup, I'll keep it in mind. "Hit the lights. It's pitch dark in here!" Bump!
