What does the part in bold mean here?

▪ To the teenager whose hormones are flying around everywhere a necessity is just a need.

The hormones are chemical signals that pass through the blood in your body and they do a lot of things, all your life, telling your body when to digest food, telling your body that you have decided to run away from danger and so on

At a certain point in life, usually early teenage, your hormones tell your body that you are becoming an adult and that you are able to have a romantic relationship - those are the sex hormones

For many of us, that is a very emotional time - we know when we've reached it and, in various ways, we react. A metaphorical way of saying that is 'the hormones are flying around everywhere'
