I'm American and didn't know what an "Eskimo pie" was ... call a "chocolate-covered" if I called it anything in particular.

"Eskimo Pie" is a brand name (hi, Donna). I've never heard it used generically for chocolate-covered ice cream bar on a stick, but perhaps things have changed since I left.

I use it that way. It's probably for the same reason I don't read Subject lines in Usenet. I can't be bothered, and I can't be bothered to keep track of what brand I'm eating, although I prefer Eskimo Pie brand,
