No language now is protected from the effects of other languages ..Now the world is getting smaller by the minute ..Satelites are breaking boarders..The internet is penetrating walls..No one is left alone ..Distances don't matter any more..Even big manufacturers are spreading themselves across so many lands promoting product names like Lexus , Airbus , and Viagra into other languages.

Lets look at India and China for example ; How many languages were there 50 years ago and how many are there now !!

So , If you may tell us how many foreign words have entered your native language in the last fifty years ?? And what is their approximate percentage of the entire language ??

Another thing ;

There is an existing theory that suggests the eventual unity of languages .. ( all languages will become one language at the end )..

If that is what is going to happen , then which language will have the greatest influence on the currently evolving universal language !!

Do you think that we may live to see the day when most people in earth are listening to the same music , enjoying the same entertainment , admiring the same heros , and speaking the same language !!!

I can't specify the number of foreign words having intruded into my native language over the recent decades but they should be quite a few. The better part of them are scientific terms from English and German.

As for the second subject you referred to, I should think that an eventual blend of languages is inevitable owing to the inconveniences of the current diversity of languages. Even so I rather doubt that this will come true in the near future...
thanks Iavor for your input , your remarks are well put and to the point...I also agree with you ,

I just cant imagine how the universal language structure and grammar would look like, not to mention the vocabulary's makeup..

As far as how soon will this universal language start taking shape !! I think it has already started ..these words are universal ; hotel , taxi, airport, cellphone, computer ,etc..

Universal language formation will accelerate at an enormous speed by the recent technological advances in communications ..

HELO, IT IS SO TRUE TO SAY THAT ALMOST NO LANGUAGE IS PURE NOW. AS A MATTER OF FACT, NOTHING IS PURE NOW AS TO SAY, CULTURE, TRADITION, DRESSING, LANGUAGES AND I AM AFRAID, NOT EVEN RELIGION. BUT I WOULD NOT SAY THAT IT IS BAD OR NEGATIVE. I BELIEVE IT IS VERY MUCH NATURAL, EXPECTED AND YES POSITIVE ALSO. WELL WHY I AM SAYING THIS IS BECAUSE IN MY PLEA, IT HAS REDUSED SHOVENIST ACTIVITIES AND HAS MADE PEOPLE MORE OPEN, ADVANCE AND LESS CONTROVERTIAL. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
TO TALK ABOUT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE.............. GOSH MAN, SO MANY THAT ITS HARD TO DIG THEM OUT NOW. AND BESIDE THIS THE WAY WE SPEAK NOW, DOES NOT EVEN TELL, WHICH WORD IS NATIVE AND WHICH ONE IS FORIEGN. BUT ITS INTERESTING, REFRESHING AND TO SOME EXTENT IN FASHION AND IN DEMAND AS WELL. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
IT HAS REDUSED SHOVENIST ACTIVITIES AND HAS MADE PEOPLE MORE OPEN, ADVANCE AND LESS CONTROVERTIAL

I sincerely hope so ..You are right , racism is a product of being ignorant about others..

Conflicting views can be challenged by fresh ideas coming from abroad , this will break local monopoly over thinking patterns..

Also fashion and other social aspects of human life will be affected ( it has already started)..

Honey Hive, Thank you for your deep insights..

Hello Eed,

What is this thread? Hmm, obviously it was your day off, too much time to think, right? Well I don't mind seeing foreign words in my native language; if a nation defines something new, of course they are the ones who coin the word for it. It also gives a great deal of idea about who is advanced in science, technology and etc. nowadays. You see there are so many Arabic words in English; like alchemy, algebra, alcohol, zero, benzene, almanac...because they used to be great in chemistry and maths. If you were to be a scholar, you had to know Arabic. Just as it is now with English...Well if you are in the foreground with your progress, you also introduce your culture to other people... so words like coffee, syrup, sherbet, kismet also were no longer foreign for the western people..

There is something funny though, that I witness alot these days. There are words that we use in our daily lives, totaly simple words, like absorb, think, house, and some people, instead of using these words, they substitute foreign ones for them, just to sound more sophisticated...so funny, or so saaaaaddd .

Take care Eed Emotion: smile

P.S.: Where did you get that signature of yours ? Emotion: stick out tongue
Hi Hena ,

(it was your day off, too much time to think)...............How insightful of you..the plan was to go somewhere but didnt work out ..remember..!!

(if a nation defines something new, of course they are the ones who coin the word for it) ..You are right , I agee with you..

(There are simple words some people substitute foreign ones for them, just to sound more sophisticated)...That is an ancient survival unwritten law..; ( follow success)..nothing sad about it except nostalgia ..

( P.S.: Where did you get that signature of yours ? ) ....I will tell you if you give me an honest opinion about it ...

waiting Hena ...
There are many words in hebrew that its origin is from foreign languages, as German, yiddish,Greek, English and more.

there are some words wich our "language acadamic" has tried make it as hebrew words, without succes lol(because it's sound funny)

the thing I feel sorry about it's that more and more Israelis are USES english words when they are speaking, or publish, we lost our respect to our own language! and they even don't speak it right!
