Well, the best way to find out is to do it. Practice, practice, practice. There must be some English-speaking foreigners around there somewhere. If not, find a willing classmate to practice with. All it takes is a simple ironbound promise to speak only English with each other for a couple of hours a week.

Listening practice is easier-- get audio tapes. Write down what they say. Use other activities supplied if it is a listening practice set.

Take a look in our Audio Forum, too.

The spoken form of English (or any language, really) is quite a different challenge from that of the written form.

The problem is that if you are not near a community of English speakers who can help, you may have to spend some money to get what you need.

You might try calling the universities nearest you (the foreign language departments) and inquire whether there are any native speakers of English who are available for tutoring.

You can also work with recorded materials at home. I've been very satisfied with such materials from this company: Try here. Select the language "English", then click your way to the ESL listings.

Good luck! Emotion: smile
