Hello!

I have a question. When you write a letter - in English -, do you write

Dear Mrs X comma,

Or

Dear Mrs X colon:

The uses may be different in the UK and in the US...

Thank you!

As far as I know, comma in the UK, colon in North America.

A couple of decades ago, I remember learning colon being used in formal letters as “Dear xxx:”. Gradually, the comma was replacing the colon and today, it seems like everyone (at least in the US) is using comma in emails. How correct is it? I myself like to know too.Emotion: big smile
Emotion: embarrassedlol I didn't know that either. Thank you (marius hancu)
In the house style of many British companies, no punctuation is used after the salutation.
