Hi,

1)- B Yes

2)- D Yes.

the correct answer is D, why D and not C??? It's really a question of standard usage. There's what is called 'the (normal) sequence of adjectives'. Have a look for this in your grammar book.

Also, search the net, eg http://www.ucl.ac.uk/internet-grammar/adjectiv/ordering.htm

3- ________ the larger markets, soil stability must be achieved through changing technologies.

In the Eastern states closely adjacent to

A)Closely in the Eastern states, adjacent to

B)Adjacent closely in the Eastern states,

C)Adjacent in the closely Eastern states,

why A?? You need something at the end that fits with 'the larger markets', eg 'adjacent to the larger markets'. However, I don't like answer A because the word 'closely' seems incorrect. Are you sure it is not your typo? Or is there an answer D that you have omitted? All theother questions include 4 choices.

4. D Yes

Best wishes, Clive
I'm sorry,,

Turns out you're right about the sentence no. 3 Emotion: stick out tongue

Hi again,

Turns out you're right about the sentence no. 3

*10. ________ the larger markets, soil stability must be achieved through changing technologies.

In the Eastern states closely adjacent to
Closely in the Eastern states, adjacent to
Adjacent closely in the Eastern states,
Adjacent in the closely Eastern states,

Why has #3 suddenly changed to #10?

Obviously, it's the choice D : p No, of these choices, I think the examiner wants you to choose A. It's the closest to being correct. As I said, I don't like the expression 'closely adjacent'. You don't need 'closely', because the word 'adjacent' already includes that idea.

and I think I know why I should choose D instead of A You can't say something is 'closely Eastern'. It doesn't make sense.
