In one of Dr. Schofield's books, I think it is, a tale is told of two well known physicians who, in order to prove the power of suggestion, beckoned to a man in a restaurant and then told him that he was seriously ill and ought to be in bed.

What does "I think it is" refer to?

In the way it is stated, "I think it is" seems like it refers to 'one of Dr. Schofield's books'. Maybe it is the title. If it is not, then there is something wrong in the statement.
