Galileo says this:
I render grace to God that it has pleased him to make me alone the first observer of an admirable thing kept hidden all these ages.

(since God made me alone.....He (God) was so pleased, so I give my grace back to him= Same?

"...render grace to God..." Galileo is thanking God for allowing him (Galileo) to be the first to see what he discovered.
"...that it has pleased Him to make me..." is just a way of saying that God chose Galileo to make the observations.
"...me alone..." is a kind of intensifier, it could be "...make me the first observer..." but it wouldn't have the same poetry.

Thank you too much. I confused "him" in the sentence.
