Hi

I would like to know if this question is meaningful.

Cramming and immersion are becoming increasingly recognized methods of gaining knowledge in an area, other people disagree and say that only through lifelong learning can a subject be learnt. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

My view:

Here, I do not get as to how lifelong learning can be put against cramming. I think for example, studying with the help of experiments (experiential learning), or learning with the focus on case study or research will be appropriate.

The question is not correctly framed, so in my opinion it's not completely meaningful.

It's phrased as "Some people believe X; other people believe Y. Do you agree or disagree?" The reader has to ask, "Agree or disagree with what? With X? Or with Y?"

Instead of asking if you agree or disagree, it should be something more like "Which of these two opinions do you agree with?"

I skimmed the web site page you posted. It had a list of sample Task 2 essay questions.

The question you copied is quite bad, but it is an anomaly. The other sample essay questions seem ok, like this one.

  • Some people think that schools have to be more entertaining, while others think that their sole purpose is to educate. Which do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Yes, this is very clear. Thank you, CJ.

Thank you, AlpheccaStars.

I will write an essay on this one.

And, I have a question on the first sentence—The question you copied is quite bad, but it is an anomaly.

Here, I am thinking of the use of but.

"bad" and "anomaly" have negative meanings.
