The table shows forested land in millions of hectares in different parts of the world. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The table illustrates the information about the number of million of hectares of forested land in 6 parts of the world in 3 different years.
Overall, while Europe had the most forested land throughout the period, the opposite trend was true for Oceania.
In 1990, the area of forests in Europe was 989 million hectares and continued to increase at 1001 million hectares in 2005. The figures for those in South America dropped gradually in 3-year period, which was 946 million hectares in 1990 and 882 million hectares in 2005. It is noteworthy that North America had the same area of forested land in 2000 and 2005, which was 705 million hectares.
The number of forests in Africa had a decrease trend, starting with 749 million hectares in 1990 and fell to 691 million hectares in 2005. There witnessed a fluctuation in those figures for Asia, decreased to 570 in 2000 and grew
slightly at the end of the period. Regarding Oceania, it has the least forested lands throughout the period and had a slight decrease trend. In 2005, it had 197 million hectares of forests.
