A few languages are increasingly spoken in different countries, while the use of others is rapidly declining. Is it a positive or negative development?

It is a well-known fact that the use of a number of languages has increasingly been marginalized by the others in many different countries. Despite some obvious benefits associated with this phenomenon, it is not without flaws.

On the one hand, the most major advantage to the recent switch towards using the same languages is that people can easily communicate with each other. In fact, people can completely send a clear message to another without language barriers when they are speaking the same language. This can help many people to avoid unexpected misunderstandings or struggling to translate whenever they talk to a foreigner. For example, in the decade of integration, English has become the most popular language and widely used in many countries which is the chance for everyone to build up a harmonious community.

On the other hand, the drawbacks of the rise of talking the same language cannot be denied. The logic behind this is that if people opt out of their national language in favor of the common one, cultural diversity is likely to be eroded. The growing popularity of some languages means that people the world over use similar language, to the compromising of national identity reflected in mother tongue. Therefore, this trend could lead to some unforeseen repercussions such as the disappearance of national languages of many countries.

To conclude, although speaking the same language has produced a number of favourable outcomes, there exist several limitations. The national identity of some countries all over the world are on the verge of vanishing due to this phenomenon.
