I agree. The contract is made up of words that are written in it.
If asked to sign a contract (that was already written), I would place my signature "on the contract."

Good point; (b) would be correct for something written later on the paper on which the contract was printed, e.g. a hand-written note.
  1. Gross earnings is solely guaranteed first years earning including benefits which are guaranteed in the contract. Grats not included in the contract are not billable.

Words and clauses have been composed and verbally agreed upon. They are written in a contract and presented for signature. If there are two ‘parties’ to the contract, each signs his/her name to approve the contract. The actual contract is not changed by the signature, but approves it and makes it enforceable.

Today’s anonymous post describes terms “of” the contract. A sentence which includes “in the contract” would normally be an interpretation ‘of’ the contract rather than a part of it. Sometimes you may find clarifications “of this contract” and they would become part of the document.

it is written in the contract

Correct. "it" in this case is referring back to some piece of information that is included in the contract.
