Since it has the meaning of jail, stealing and cheating, why are there still people named with this word? The only glory of this name is that it's one of those nicknames of Nicholas? I picked this name 4 years ago. My English was very bad at that time. And I was encountering some trauma, so that I feel resonance on this word.

Native speakers who meet a person called Nick would not really think about that meaning.

The slang term 'nick' is not even used a lot in N. America, in my experience.

So, don't worry at all.Emotion: smile

We Brits simply think of 'Nick' as a name when it is used as a name..

Many names are words that can mean other things, but these meanings do not spring to mind when we hear the names.

Bob, Rob, Rick, , Harry, Bill, Will, Jack, Frank are just a few of these names.

ps. The forum's censor insisted on blanking out the common British short form of Richard that begins with D and ends with ick.

Yes, I know i it's a British slang, so British people think it more in that way? I hope native speakers won't guess it that I'm a thief wanna-be...

Lol Lol Lol Lmao~! Sorry for the late reply... I tried it just now, when I previewd it... yes, you're honest, sir! XD What a pity for that name's owners. And I think D.I.C.K. is a much more popular name than Nick, isn't it? What surprised me the best is the name John... I had thought its the most popular name before, which is from bibble, until a person reminded me that it also had a meaning...XD Thank you for the lesson, sir. I'm comforted now!

Nick is an Persian name, means goodness,
