Hi all

In the situation like this , do we use 'is' or 'was' ?

My friend Terry saw the movie 'Spiderman 3' yesterday. I came up to him this morning and asked him what does ( or should I use did ?) he think of the movie. Should I say ' How is the movie ? 'or 'How was the movie?' The problem is that he saw the movie yesterday ( in the past ) but the movie is still on ( in the present ) ( how should I say the movie is still in the theatre ? ).

1. Did I put my puncuations correctly ?
2. Should I use 'is' or 'was' ?
3. How do you say the movie is still in the theatre ?
4. Is the above paragraph correctly written ?

Thank you very much for you time and help . Emotion: big smile

1. Did I use my puncuations correctly ? Yes
2. Should I use 'is' or 'was' ? "was"
3. How do you say the movie is still in the theatre ? As you have it or "the movie is still showing"
4. Is the above paragraph correctly written ? looks fine to me.

Thank you Feebs11 .

ummm.... could anybody tell me why do I need to use 'was' in this case ?

Thanks again

Hi Feebs11

Shouldn't it be punctuation?

Hi PeaceBF,
I would say both "is" and "was" are possible.

How was that movie? ---> You saw it, how was it?
How is that movie? -----> You already saw it, how is it? (more general)

That's the way I see it, I hope I'm not wrong. Let's see what the others have to say. Emotion: smile

My friend Terry saw the movie 'Spiderman 3' yesterday. I came up to him this morning and asked him what does ( or should I use did ?) he think of the movie. Even better here would be this: ... asked him what he thought of the movie.

Should I say ' How is the movie ? 'or 'How was the movie?' The problem is that he saw the movie yesterday ( in the past ) but the movie is still on ( in the present )
Here's my take on that (it is similar to Kooyeen's):

If you say "How was the movie?", you are in essence asking if your friend enjoyed the movie and you're also asking indirectly if he enjoyed going to see it (i.e. whether he enjoyed his evening).

If you said "How is the movie?", you would be asking a more general question about your friend's opinion of the movie without any focus on the fact that he went to see it yesterday.

Thank you very much Yankee and Kooyeen .

I appreciate the fact that you gave me a detailed explanation and an alternative way of saying what I want to say ( Is there a better way to say this?) .

Thank you
