If I were you, I wouldn’t have done such a boring job.

teacherJapan Is this a correct sentence?

Yes.

You might expect

If I had been you, I wouldn't have done such a boring job.

which is also correct, but 'were' often substitutes for 'had been'.

teacherJapanIf I were you, I wouldn’t have done such a boring job.

I don't love it. "If I were you" normally begins a sentence that goes on to say something concrete you should do. It is not really literal. Your sentence sounds like the person made the thing boring on purpose. In my dialect, it would be simply "I wouldn’t have done such a boring job."

Thank you for your additional info, too, CJ.

I see “I” wouldn’t have done….sounds more simple and easy. Thank you for the idea, anonymous.
