I got stuck writing a simple paper and I'm not even sure if this is a thesis statement. It's sad, yes, but help me out! The essay is about the steps to making macaroni and cheese. It doesnt matter if its a GOOD thesis statement... but I need to know its a thesis statement at all.

THESIS:

Although there are many ways to make macaroni and cheese, my steps are simple and clear ways to prepare something delicious and fun for the whole family.

Change it to "follow these simple and clear steps to prepare" instead of "my steps are simple and clear ways" -- but yeah, sure. Your thesis statement is that you are going to show how to make good mac & cheese. It's as much a thesis statement as saying you're going to demonstrate how the 10 Amendment can be used as the basis of an argument against federalized health care.

thanks! and thats not so much a direction as it is a statement??
Im not doubting you, just confirming. It's supposed to be a really basic paper, and I suprisingly havent written anything so basic in a very long time. The paper continues with an anecdote and then extremely descriptive (and fluffly) steps to making the Mac and then a conclusion with the family's satisfaction.

And that works??
It's been a long time since I've had to write academic papers as well, but from what I remember, a "how-to" paper doesn't so much have a thesis/thesis statement as a description of what the result will be.

A thesis statement would be more like "Cooking and eating together as a family has many beneficial results" or "Kids who participate in the preparation family meals are more likely to have a balanced diet."

However, if your paper is supposed to be a how-to paper, then your statement is as good as it could be.

What is cooking? can you write it as a thesis statement. thanks
