Students: We have free audio pronunciation exercises.
I think it would be better to say 'we went clubbing over the new year' or 'we went clubbing on new years eve'
"We went clubbing over the new year" is wrong. "We went clubbing on New Year's Eve" is right (note capitalization and apostrophe). Another possibility is "We went clubbing over New Year's," which is a more general way of saying "...during the New Year's holiday."
dont you think the way the verb "to club" has been extended is interesting?
Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
Sure! Many, especially baby seals, would probably think that a pretty violent way to celebrate the New Year.
pedantAnother possibility is "We went clubbing over New Year's,"
That might be correct in American English but, it is definitely not in the English of England. Without at least one other word after the word Year's, it is unfinished. Do you mean New Year's eve, New Year's day, New Year's eve celebrations or something else to do with New Year?

Use of New Year's" depends on if someone speaks American English in particular, or not.
