You can refer to a baby as it when the discussion is about babies in general:
What does a baby do when it is hungry?

I would not recommend using itto refer to a specific baby, particularly in the presence of the baby's parents.Emotion: wink

Hi,

I agree with what has been said, but I'd just like to add a small comment. The term 'it' shows that you have no emotional or personal connection to the baby.

I might quite reasonably say to my wife "Did you hear the baby in the next apartment last night? It cried all night."

Best wishes, Clive

We can use 'it' for a baby if we do not know whether the baby is male or female.
