In the following essay I will like to give my opinion on the thesis “it is more important to keep old friends than to make new friends. I believe both types of friends are equally important.

Firstly, Old friends can be described as people you have known for years and interacted with them in different ways. An Old friend is one who really understands you and whom you might have similar characters or mindsets. Old friends are worth keeping because these are people who really understands you and can intercede for you at any point in time. For instance, in 2017 when my dad was diagnosed of a debilitating illness and I needed a huge sum of money for some medical treatments. I contemplated on a lot of things before deciding on which of my friends to seek help. I thought about some of my old friends and the new ones. This is because an old friend knows your capabilities, trusts and believes in you. This might not always be the case in a new friend because it takes time for someone to get to know you and trust you.

SECONDLY, on the aspect of opportunities in life. Making new friends could provide some opportunities that you might not have been able to receive from an old friend. In my native language an adage that says
“NAA NKPUYARI KA E JI ELE NWA MKPI” meaning that it is through been outgoing that one can see what the world holds and been able to explore opportunities. I cannot forget in a hurry my encounter with a new friend that I met during my internship program. She was an amazing lady. She introduced me into flourishing business I had never thought of venturing into it. Up to this moment, I still cherish her.

Furthermore, it is more interesting when we meet new people because we tend to learn and explore new ideas, people’s culture, values and different mannerisms. These enables you to know how build relationship with people. As with old friends there is no much to explore because these people probably you might have known them for donkey years.

In summary, I will like to give in to the opinion that it is worth keeping old friends and also making new friends as both have contribute differently to our lives.

thanks for the correction. I have taken note.

Lol, on a side note, i disagree with this essay so much. Old friends are 99% of the time outgrown, and should not be kept since they start dragging you down and stopping you from moving forward. And you have to keep moving forward. Otherwise, you die.
