It will take a few years for me to understand this theory.

The above sentence I wrote may be correct. Can I say:

I won't let it take a long time for me to understand this theory.

What I want to say is I'm going to understand this theory as soon as I can.

Thanks

It will take a few years for me to understand this theory-- This means that it will take a long time.

I won't let it take a long time for me to understand this theory.
I'm going to understand this theory as soon as I can
. -- both of these are grammatically OK, but not natural.

I suggest:
I want to understand this theory as soon as I can.
It won't take long for me to understand this theory.
