Count the words and write.

It's blue. ==> ...........

Source: family and friends 1

I have taken a picture of the page of the book. If you click on the below link, you will see the picture:

We should say there are three words or two words in [It's blue.]? I mean do we count "It's" as two words or one word?

I have asked this question in WR forum too. One native English speaker has said to me that it's a bad question.

What's your opinion?

We should regard "it's" as two words or one word?

Thank you.

I would count It's blue as 3 words.

This whole exercise sees useless to me. In what way will it improve your English?

Thanks for answering.

It's a kids book.

I teach kids the book.

If that exercise is typical of the ones in the book, I suggest you find another book.

Then you can accept both 1 and 2 as the number of words in "It's". When the kids differ in what they believe the answer is, you have a "teaching moment". You can ask them why they chose 1 or 2 as the answer, and if they're old enough, you can talk about other contractions in English (don't, can't, he's, I've, ...). It's also a good lesson in how sometimes there is no single right answer to a question. You might even have the kids vote on whether the class will count such constructions as 1 or 2 words in future word-counting activities.
