Muslims do believe that Isa (A.S.) was sent down as a Prophet of Allah (God), but he (Jesus) is not God or Lord, nor the son of God. Muslims do not believe that Isa (A.S.), also known as Jesus by Christians and others, is dead or was ever crucified. We believe that he was raised to heaven and is there, and will descend at the appointed time, end all wars, and bring peace to the world. Like Jesus (A.S.), Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is also a Prophet and Messenger. Muhammed (P.B.U.H.) is the last Prophet, though, and there is none after him. Hence, Islam is the last religion, complete, with the Holy Qur'an as the unchanged and perfect word of God for over 1400 years, as God promised to preserve it till the last day for all of humankind, unlike sacred texts of other religions which have mulitple versions and are "revised" periodically. God, or Allah in Arabic, is Divine and Supreme Being and Creator.

What the Holy Qur'an says about Jesus:

They slew him not, nor did they crucify him but it was made dubious to them.
(Holy Qur'an , Surah Nisaa, Verse 157)

Another cut & paste ...
Why isn't it Muhammad, the last prophet as Muslims believe, will come at the end of the world?

Another question: If Muslims consider Jesus as a prophet of Allah, they have to believe in all what he said, which was written in the New Testament. Jesus said that he is the Son of God and there is one God in Three divine persons, etc. So how can you still believe in his words and works if he always proclaimed that he is the Son of God? As far as I can consider, if a prophet dare to proclaim that he is the Son of God, which means that he is sacrilegious, he must be eliminated. Also, he cannot be considered as a prophet anymore. How do you still consider him as a prophet of Allah, because he told a lie ?
Actually, Steven, I'm not sure that Jesus does say that. In many cases, others say it to him, but does he ever say "Yes, I am." I know that it says he counters Satan when Satan says so, and at one point he says something like "You say that I am," but can you find a verse in which Jesus says "I am the son of God?" I remember a minister once said that he addresses God in his prayers in a different way, use a more familiar form of address.

Anyway, if you can find a verse in the bible in which Jesus himself is proclaiming himself the son of God, I'd be interested to know what it is. I certainly did NOT read the entire gospel section before writing this, so it may well be.

Hi there,

I'd like to answer your questions, Steven Mc. Some conceptions must be clarified seeking for better understanding for all who read the posts.

  1. I am a little bit hesitant to answer these questions. The reason is that these are fundamental beliefs in Islam. Not a mere person posting here or there can simply replay. We as people may commit mistakes unintentionally because we want to answer. If any one is really interested, he/she should refer to scholars in our religion or many websites we believe in its authenticity like www.islamtomorrow.com . I am not here to deny the efforts of those who try to convey a proper message. But all my fear is that they convey it insufficiently.

  2. For your questions Steven Mc , I'll try to shed some light on the subject hoping you got the meaning. All what miss. M said about the prophet Jesus is true in Islam. Why Mohammad is not the chosen is because he had already died and prophet Jesus is the chosen and the honorable one to come back. True is Mohammd is the last messenger because he brought about the religion of Islam, the true religion as we believe till the day of Judgment. When Jesus come back at the end of the world, he's not going to bring a new religion. As Muslims we believe that the essence of Islam is to believe in God, the creator of the whole universe , with NO partner. And ALL messengers of God were sent to deliver the same message to their peoples. I mean by all including Jesus and Moses. No one claimed that he was a son of God which as Muslims believe is an offensive thing to the Almighty God.

  3. Now all messengers call for the same cause. How comes there is a Christianity or Judaism? We believe that the essence of three religions is to believe in God with no partner (like Jesus or whoever). By religion we mean in Islam a WAY of LIFE. Moses had the Torah(Old Testament) which includes rules for the Jewish people at the time of its revelation and Jesus had the Bible (New Testament) which includes rules for both Jewfishes and Christians as well. The Quran is the last revelation which includes rules for all people and which is promised to be kept away from distortion till the day of Judgment.

  4. Your second question was concerning our belief in Bible. We believe in Bible (the true Bible) but not in 7 or 9 versions of it. King …. version!! Each Christian Sect believe in a different one. So we think that many words of men have been put in the original version. And the diversity of the Bible proves so.

  5. The Quran is ONE book since its revelation. Though there are many sects in Islam, yet ALL Muslims believe in authenticity of the Quran, the true word of God. And we believe as well in the rules and things said in the Quran. About Jesus, we found in the Quran "O People of the Book ! exceed not the limits in your religion, and say not of ALLAH (God) anything but the truth. Verily, the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of ALLAH, and a fulfillment of HIS word which HE has sent down to Mary, and a mercy from HIM. So believe in ALLAH and HIS Messengers, and say not, `They are three.' Desist, it will be better for you. Verily, ALLAH is the only One God. Holy is HE, far above having a son. To HIM belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And sufficient is ALLAH as a guardian." Verse n.171 chapter 4. Another verse " And when ALLAH(God) will say, `O Jesus, son of Mary, didst thou say to men, `Take me and my mother for two gods beside ALLAH ?' he will answer, `Holy art THOU, I could never say that which I had no right. If I had said it, Thou wouldst have surely known it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy mind. It is Thou alone WHO art the Knower of all hidden things; `I said nothing to them except that which Thou didst command me - Worship ALLAH, my Lord and your Lord…etc" verse no. 116-7 chapter 5.. And so many verses included in the Quran.
I hope Steven Mc that you didn't get bored and tired while reading my post. You asked questions which need elaborate answers. I tried to do my best.

My Regards,,

and why should it be for muhamad? as for us Jesus dodn't die and he was raised up to god anyway i don't know why u think he should be Muhamad (for us there is no difference between prophets)

we believe that he didn't say so at all and he will never tell a lie, this is Jesus!! for us ppl proclaim that he said so!:D
Dear ML,

I've read your post very attentively and I can assure you that I didn't get bored, not at all.

Thank you for your effort to explain, with your own words, what Islamists believe.

Anyway, as a Christian, I feel I have somenting to say in reply to some of your sentences.

Mythical Lady
When Jesus come back at the end of the world, he's not going to bring a new religion.

We don't believe He will bring a new religion. We believe that when He'll be back (at the end of this world) we all will live forever with God in Paradise, enjoying His vision and company.

No one claimed that he was a son of God

Well, you said you believe in the Bible; here are some excerpts:

"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." (Luke 3:21-22)
"Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he." (John 4:21-26)

For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." But he gave them strict orders not to tell who he was (Mark 3:10-12)

Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father." (John 10:34-38)

Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." (Mark 14:61-62)

At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. "If you are the Christ," they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God." They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You are right in saying I am." (Luke 22:66-70)

You're wrong. The Bible is not a set of rules, but what we believe to be the message sent by God, through His Son, to whomever wants to listen to it; as such, it's not only for Christians:

"I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me" (John 17:6-8)

Well, maybe before answering to this we should discuss over "sects" and what we mean. I'd never consider Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Churches as "sects!"

I'm Catholic, and maybe you've never heard about Ecumenism. Although separated, different branches of the Christian Church (Catholics, Orthodoxes, Protestants) are making an effort to be closer, and a unique Ecumenist Bible does exist.

Here's a link (in French ... Emotion: embarrassed )http://bibliotheque.editionsducerf.fr/par%20page/120/TM.htm

So, I hope we'll agree on the necessity to know each other better, in order to be able to understand each other even better. Many misconceptions, on both sides, are simply originated by the lack of willingness to listen to what is different from us.
