Hi all

While reading bible some doubts arises in my mind. Let me ask u one from that.

When JESUS select his desciples he selected exactly 12.

And during the miracle done with 5 breads and 2 fishes the left out baskets were 12.

Does anything mentioned about the number12 anywhere else in the BIBLE and do any of u know any article about this relation between 12 and BIBLE.

Just a doubt arised in mind.

PS: Sorry if i'm not clear to u.

The God Mithras had TWELVE disciples. The followers of Mithras were exterminated by the early Christians, their temples destroyed and their sacred works burned. I expect they borrowed a few beliefs to compensate. Mithras' birthday was 25th December; he died, was entombed and was raised from the dead; his mother was a virgin; and he was known as the Lamb of God.
You'll find certain numbers show up over and over. 40 is also particularly popular. It rained for 40 days and nights in the story of the great flood, and Moses and his people wandered for 40 years in the desert.

(It was once pointed out to me that if God really favored the metric system, Jesus would have had 10 disciples. Emotion: big smile)

Ah, but can we be sure that it was 40 days as we know them? Was the word iom used in the Hebrew original? It apparently has fifteen different meanings - see another thread somewhere.
To the contrary, I think it is very rarely thought to be exactly forty days, or forty years, or forty anything. I think it's a general term for "a pretty long time, but not an absolute eternity." And I'm not even talking about the definition of "day."

The number of tribes explain the number of Disciples.
