Hi freinds, can you please consider the following sentence and in particular the use of "keep from on sth" usage.
I am confused that the author uses "do not" and also "keep from" in the sentence and I can not understand the logic of the sentence. Is there something wrong woth the sentence or am i interpreting the sentece wrong?
Thank you in advance,. Regrds...

It is the large Exchange customers who
do not want news groups in Outlook to keep their employees from surfing
alt.yyy on company time.

I think it means--

Exchange customers want Outlook news groups to allow employees to surf on company time.
Hi,

Yes, it's not clearly written. 'do not want' and 'keep from (doing an undesirable activity, like surfing on company time) together create a kind of double or even triple negative that is a bit hard to logically unravel.

Best wishes, Clive

I second Davkett's response and will say that it would seem to create a double-negative situation, and the right interpretation seems to be that the large Exchange customers want news groups in Outlook to allow surfing the website on company time.

I think a comma after Outlook makes everything more consistent.
And I am sure they do NOT want users to do that ... Also, some might prefer in order added

And I am sure they do NOT want users to do that

On the contrary. Though I don't claim to understand the Microsoft Exchange software, I believe it is at odds with policies that disallow surfing.

Maybe you'll understand this link better that I can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Exchange_Server

I think the sentence structure is very simple. Consider the following sentence.

I do not want you to keep your brother from coming here to see me.
