Hi! "Would" is the modal verb. So are both "like" and "have" the main verbs? Thanks, Fulvio
1. Would you like to have a cup of coffee?
yellowstarstruck"Would" is the modal verb.
Correct. And it goes with the main verb "like".
"to have" is a catenative complement of "would like", not the main verb of the whole clause.

Actually, the subordinate clause "like to have a cup of coffee" is catenative complement of "would", and the further subordinate clause "to have a cup of coffee" is then catenative complement of just "like".
Note that modal auxiliary verbs can be just as much catenative verbs as lexical verbs can.
