I am applying for a Master of Public Health Program of which I am required to write a motivation letter. I have never written a motivation letter before, Kindly advise.
Thank you in anticiapation
It refers to medical clerkship / internship, but you can adapt it for you special purpose.
GUIDELINES TO WRITE A LETTER OF MOTIVATION
This letter must be addressed to the professor or supervisor of your desired department. It should be written in English or in the native language of your chosen country.
The letter should be personal and include at least the following points:
Why do you want to do a clerkship abroad?
Why do you want to go to that particular country for a clerkship?
What is your interest in your chosen clerkship?
What do you expect from your clerkship?
What would you like to do during your clerkship?
Do you have any practical experience? (Medical practice in hospital, laboratory work etc.)
This advice is from baltic Youth corporation:
.: HOW TO WRITE a Letter of motivation:.
In this letter, the person who wants to become a volunteer, should give a detailed explanation including:
1. Why you want to go to the chosen organisation (choose 1-3 host-organisations from the next pages).
2. Why you want to make a voluntary service and what expectations you have.
Do you have any experience working in cross-cultural settings? What kind of work do you enjoy most?
3. What possibilities do you see for your personal development through this voluntary service?
4. What benefit would have both the hosting and sending organisation from your activities? What are your skills and experience?
5. How do you see the future connections/relations with and between the hostand the send-organisation?
6. How do you see yourself in the BYCo network and/or in other international projects?
As you notice the questions above are not all of the questions and points which should be clarified and described in the letters. Any extra information is useful. The more information we have about the volunteers, the fairer the decision to acceptor reject their application becomes. The style of writing can be free, perfect English is not a criteria or a problem because the letter is only for inside use- not for EU. The information is used to let the host organisation and also the project co-ordinating organisation know what kind of people are getting involved in BYCo and will also make the ”decision making process” more fair and easier.
Personal information (CV/resume):
- Address (please: postal and also email)
- Education and language skills (written and spoken)
- Experience and skills
- Special needs ....etc.
See if you can draft something, then post it here and we'll give you some help.
